Job Duties and Responsibilities :
Assist Customers: Provide friendly and efficient service, answering questions, and helping customers with their needs.
Handle Transactions: Process cash, credit, and debit transactions for fuel, store items, and other services.
Issue Receipts: Provide accurate receipts and manage the cash register.
Resolve Complaints: Address and resolve any customer complaints or issues promptly and courteously.
Restock Shelves: Ensure shelves are stocked with products such as snacks, beverages, and automotive supplies.
Monitor Inventory: Keep track of inventory levels and notify management when stock is low or needs reordering.
Promote Products: Upsell or promote in-store products and special offers to customers.
Monitor Fuel Pumps: Oversee the operation of fuel pumps, ensuring they function correctly and safely.
Assist with Fueling: In some locations, assist customers with fueling their vehicles.
Check Fuel Levels: Monitor and report fuel levels to ensure an adequate supply.
Maintain Cleanliness: Keep the store and surrounding areas clean, including sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash.
Ensure Safety: Follow safety procedures for handling hazardous materials like fuel, ensuring the safety of customers and staff.
Monitor Security Cameras: Keep an eye on security cameras to prevent theft or suspicious activity.
Emergency Response: Be prepared to handle emergencies, such as fuel spills or equipment malfunctions.
Complete Reports: Fill out daily sales and shift reports, documenting any discrepancies or issues.
Manage Shift Schedules: Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as gas stations often operate 24/7.
Communicate with Management: Report any significant issues, equipment malfunctions, or customer complaints to management.
Maintain Equipment: Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as checking air pressure in tires or cleaning the fuel pump area.
Monitor Restrooms: Ensure that restrooms are clean, stocked with supplies, and well-maintained.
Perform Routine Inspections: Regularly check equipment, fuel pumps, and store areas for any maintenance needs or hazards.
Follow Regulations: Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations regarding fuel sales, alcohol/tobacco sales, and other applicable laws.
Verify Age for Restricted Sales: Check IDs to verify age for the sale of restricted items like alcohol, tobacco, or lottery tickets.
Assist with Special Promotions: Help set up and promote special sales or events.
Support Other Staff: Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the gas station.
Perform Other Duties: Handle any other duties as assigned by management.
A gas station clerk must have good communication skills, basic math skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Dependability and attention to detail are also important qualities for this role.
